My long awaited birthday present finally arrived early this afternoon. I had been wanting a 19th Century Korean Chest for a couple of years and decided that this was the year that I would get one. This particular chest is about 5 inches shorter than I wanted, but have decided that I still love it. Currently, the chest is sitting in my formal living room waiting for me to move it to it’s perfect spot in my house. I may put it at the end of a bed and use it to store extra blankets or I may use it as a side table next to a comfy chair in the living room.
Living is New York City is a wonderful thing. The city is never boring and always vibrant, but living in the city is also tiring. By the end of the week I’m usually pretty tired and am in need of a major weekend rest. Last night I had a meeting to go to and then had planned to leave for my weekend home in Connecticut for a long Labor Day weekend. Walking home from my meeting last night I was crossing 42nd Street and saw that the Chrysler Building was beautifully lit. While taking this photo I reflected on how grateful I am to have the best of both worlds and how I was soon heading to my house for a much needed break. Blessing to all of you!
Last Sunday Wilton, Connecticut’s, Cannon Grange, had their annual fair. I love this little fair because it truly is something from out of the past. The fair is held inside the grange where people compete against one another for things like “best homegrown tomatoes” and “best homemade pickles.” Outside are various local venders as well as a children’s’ watermelon eating contest. On a whim I decided to enter my Root Beer Brownies and won first prize. Next year I may enter my rhubarb jam or my double decker carrot cake. These are some of the simple things in life that make me happy.
5 Reasons To Love Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is an edible oil extracted from the kernel or meat of mature coconuts harvested from the coconut palm. Because of its high saturated fat content, it is slow to oxidize and is resistant to spoiling.

4.	Sautéing. Coconut oil is great for sautéing. Use coconut oil occasionally instead of olive oil to add a subtle flavor that is delicious in tropical or Indian recipes.  
5. Good Cholesterol. Coconut oil boosts good cholesterol. While coconut oil is full of saturated fat, about half is medium-chain fatty acids, which seem to help raise HDL (good) cholesterol. Coconut oil is still high in fat, however, so consume in moderation.

The Lunch Counter
Growing up in the 1960s going to the luncheonette (lunch counter) was a common lunchtime occurrence. These lunch counters were always in what was known as the “five and dime” store. My mother would take me shopping and we would stop at the lunch counter for a grilled cheese or egg salad sandwich. I would usually have an orange Nehi or a chocolate shake to go along with my lunch.

Watermelon
Watermelon is the ultimate summer snack. As a kid growing up in Nebraska, my favorite way to eat watermelon was outside, with the juice running down my face and arms. Here is how I’m eating watermelon this summer.
Treat It Like A Steak
Cut watermelon into 2 inch slabs and drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with kosher salt and red pepper flakes. Eat with a steak knife. 
Make A BLW
Forget the tomato and use a few thin slices of watermelon on your sandwich instead. Add some cheese for good measure.  
Blitz It
Purée watermelon (seeds and all), strain, then add honey, and lime juice. Serve on ice with a mint sprig. Add rum or tequila if you want to be naughty.

Last night I had the pleasure of going to David Bouley’s Tribeca restaurant,Bouley. I have to say that it is one of the most beautiful dining rooms that I’ve seen in a very long time. Here is a photo that I took of the entrance. A wonderful display of fresh apples greet you when entering the restaurant.
