It doesn’t have to be National Pizza Day to make delicious homemade pizza.

  • 2 1/4 Teaspoons Active Dry Yeast (Or 1 Packet)
  • 1 3/4 Cups Warm Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil (Plus More For Coating Bowl & Pan)
  • 1 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • 4 Cups Unbleached Flour
  1. Move oven rack to middle position.
  2. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  3. In small-size bowl combine yeast, 1/4 cup warm water (not hot), and sugar. Let sit for 10 minutes until yeast bubbles. If water is too hot it will kill the yeast.
  4. In large-size bowl combine flour, kosher salt, and 1 1/2 cups warm water. Add yeast mixture and olive oil. Combine until mixture forms dough. If you need to add a bit more water or flour to get the right consistency then go right ahead.
  5. Coat clean large-size bowl with olive oil. Place dough in bowl and turn once. Cover with damp kitchen towel and let rise 30 minutes in warm place. Remove from bowl and knead on a lightly floured flat surface.
  6. Grease pizza pan or rimmed baking sheet with olive oil. Place dough on pan and manipulate until dough fully covers pan.
  7. Spread dough with sauce of your choice. Top with favorite toppings and grated cheese.
  8. Place in oven on middle rack and bake 25 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool 5 minutes before slicing.
  10. Transfer to serving platter and serve.
  11. Serves 4 to 6
